Newfoundland
The following are Jo's notes on our trip with pictures. Hopefully spell check caught any typos etc. Enjoy!
June 12 2014. Thursday
Day 1
We got out at 10:00 as planned and thankfully had an uneventful drive to Medway, Maine. We gave Cloey 1/4 of the anxiety pill Dr. Mark gave us for her anxiety and it was wonderful. She stopped shaking. We found a nice campground called Katadhin Shadows where we had a pull through so we didn't even take off the car.
Another day of driving but it’s been fun! We pulled into Arm of Gold about 4:00 and the two men in the
office said that we would like “the Rock” so much we’d be back next year.
Highly recommended Labrador, which is not on our schedule. In any case we are
excited and as close to the ferry as almost possible. We have to be out early
since we have to be at the terminal two hours before the ferry leaves. It is
true so far. Very nice people!
These are our little munchkin heads looking at us as we walked away from the motor home to go to the main part of the ferry. You can see them in the left side above the Georgetwon name.

Day Two June 13 Friday and a full moon
We got over the border no problem. We were asked about
alcohol, firearms, and the usual but there was no line and no hassle. The drive seemed easy to the Nova Scotia Welcome Center,
which had acres of green grass. The girls had so much fun running and fighting.
We ended up staying near Truro in Elm River, which is very
nice but both this one and another one I called and the one last night had NO
TV. Crazy. But it is a nice site and we’ll have maybe a chance to watch a movie
and chill. We took the girls for a walk and let them run just a bit because
they have their rules!! Rules, I only like reasonable ones.

Day 3, Saturday June 14

Day 4 Sunday
I gave Elliott his father’s day presents and I think he
liked them, especially the wood carving for hanging outside Georgie. We had a
good night’s sleep and are excited to get on the ferry! This campground’s
recycling program is so complicated we are taking our trash with us!! But we
have Wi Fi and it is free.

Lined up to get on the ferry. |
The ferry was rough but my Bonine was great and we had
reserved seats so were very comfy for the 6 hour ride. We had lunch on board,
which was very good – cod- and we got free headphones but didn’t watch TV. We
both read much of the time. So we had not been warned about winds we now know of as "home wreckage."
We thought we were going to tip and if not we were blown into the other lane. Thank goodness, the traffic was very light but it was one of our scariest times. The the very nice woman at Codroy RV Park told Elliott about the winds and was surprised that it wasn’t announced on the ferry but it wasn’t. Anyway here we are and it’s beautiful but windy so we took in the living room slider and Elliott doesn’t have to worry about the awning.

Days 5 and 6 June 16 and 17 Monday and Tuesday
Monday was another day of driving but feel finally like our trip is starting.
We are spending two nights in the very low key but well-kept Kona Beach
Campground, which also doubles as a day park due to the beautiful rocky (:
beach and well-kept lawn, mini golf and play ground. We picked a pull through – no –sewer but a dump
station – level lot, nice grill but there are sticky leaves that are sticking
to the girls so we put down the green rug. No television of course but we are
both into books and we took the girls for a walk.
Tuesday morning the SUN was shining. A perfectly gorgeous warm
day. We picked up “Trails and Whales of the Great Whale Coast at the Visitor
Center,” which was invaluable. We decided not to go as far as fleur de lys.
Instead we traveled through tiny towns – 500 people is a big town – and found
Harry’s Harbor. We started the hike but it was so rocky and really the beauty
of the icebergs was everywhere!! We had never seen them. So we spent time just
looking and driving through the beach towns and then went to Rattling Brook
where there is an 800 feet and lots of steps up to the waterfall.
